I made a game with Maria and Jukio (aka. KOZILEK) at Nordic Game Jam 2014 over the weekend! This year’s theme was “privacy”, so we figured we’d make a game that is all about regaining some personal space in overwhelming situations.
We weren’t able to execute on all our ideas or put all of the art into the final jam version (see unused characters above), but we managed to wrap up with a fun little game after 40-ish hours. In SUPER STRESS-OUT, you play as a stressed-out businesswoman or -man and use the controller’s sticks to throw a tantrum. Wiggle to punch and kick stuff around and try to establish the greatest possible distance to everyone and everything.
Maria designed the game, Jukio coded and I did the artwork. We also got some help from Martin (aka. Grapefrukt), who recorded a bunch of sound effects for us.
You can download the game on the NDJ submission page. Please not that it requires 2 analogue sticks per player for proper limb wiggling and that it’s PC only for now!
I highly recommend watching this short progress / devlog video with some gameplay and quick looks into all our builds (which I put together in the final hours of the jam instead of going to sleep):
Even though we didn’t meet all the expectations, I’m really happy with the result. Jamming at Nordic Game Jam has been a blast and I met a lot of amazing people working on brilliant games. Can’t wait to show my next jam game!
